OUTSIDE THE BOX

2012

In 2009 Outside the Box launched, as a technical supplier to the the theatre, entertainment and education industries.

Within a few years we were supplying many schools, universities and commercial premises with equipment for their productions and events.

By 2012 Outside the Box had entered the events market thoroughly and not only were we supplying technical equipment but we were working with our clients to organise their events with them. We had several regular commercial companies using our services and we began to undertake a lot more work across the south east of England and Central London.

2014

2014 was a big milestone for the business, we now had regular staff and freelancers working for the company full time and the work was flooding in. We had multiple repeat clients and many new ones coming in each week.

We launched our first production under Phoenix Theatre Co. An immersive play through the streets of Windsor. We sold out a short run of one week every night.

This was also the year that we took on our first commercial premises on our own and continued to expand.

2015

Our first long term Tour, in 2016 we took on the contract supplying technical equipment, production engineers and management to Pirates of the Carabina Circus. We got to tour the UK and Europe with the circus for four years, unfortunately this tour came to a standstill in 2019 due to the Coronavirus pandemic soon to hit the world.

Alongside all our Events, Tours and Equipment Hires in 2016 we launched the Facilities Management department of the business. In year one we took on the building operations of a Grade II listed Arts centre, soon to follow with commercial premises dotted around the UK.

2018

In 2018 we launched our Security department, advising clients and installing state of the art security systems on properties. We have now worked across the South East of England installing CCTV, Security Alarms, and much more.

2019

We started the year with our big rebrand, and we were so excited to hit the new year with all of our new ideas unfortunately, 2019 then brought many challenges to Outside the Box. In March suddenly overnight we lost over 6 months of Events and Festivals booked in due to the Coronavirus pandemic that had hit the world and was spreading quickly.

Many of our clients turned to us for facilities and management support, we carried out numerous risk assessments, facility installs and launched our Covid safe products.

Outside the Box has been extremely grateful to our clients new and old for continuing to use our services, through our journey so far.

March 2020 was a challenging time for everyone, when the PM announced that lockdowns were to come into place. Overnight we lost 80% of our work, the emails were filling up and the phone lines completely inundated with clients trying to postpone or reschedule work.

We as a company work with many freelancers and now had no work for them, and financially we were concerned. So like many other companies we looked at how we could support and generate new lines of work. The productions, festivals and events had gone, but we have a huge amount of stock that could be used for vaccination centres and such venues. We worked with some of the venues we manage and created testing sites for schools and colleges, we invested heavily in 3D printers and donated them to schools so that volunteers could print visors to donate to the care industry.

Making arrangements with clients to bring forward all building and maintenance work on their buildings so that when they finally were able to reopen all this work was completed.

Like other companies, we had a rocky ride, but we survived and are now a stronger company for it, and we were able to do our bit to help.
